Happy birthday Frankie - let's celebrate with World Lindy Hop day!
Today would have been the 101st birthday of lindy hop legend Frankie Manning. Born in 1914 in Florida, Frankie moved to Harlem, New York at the tender age of three and it wasn’t many years after, having witnessed his mother strutting her stuff at ‘house rent parties', that his love of, and fascination with, dance begun.
One of Whitey's Lindy Hoppers, Frankie went on to become one of the world's best know swing dancers, admired as a dancer, choreographer and all round nice guy - Frankie travelled the world inspiring dancers right up until his death in 27 April 2009, at the impressive age of 94.
Always impeccably dressed in suits, belts, braces and shiny black shoes - sometimes even a dapper fedora hat - Frankie always looked the part and was an absolute gentleman on the dance floor.
The day is now recognised across the globe as World Lindy Hop day - so wherever you are - grab your best swing clothes, shine up your swing dance shoes and dance your heart out in memory of the fabulous Frankie!
